Class Action Notice: Indian Boarding Homes

A class action lawsuit is being brought against the Quebec and Federal governments for the Indian Boarding Homes Program. This program from the Government of Canada placed children from First Nations communities and Inuit villages into other non-Indigenous communities to stay in private family homes to attend public school. Through this program many children suffered harassment, abuse, loss of language and culture, and other harms. The lawsuit seeks compensation, recognition, and justice for the experiences and harms suffered by plaintiffs. The lawsuit notice was shared to LFN because some community members may have been placed in the Indian Boarding Homes Program.

The claims process is not yet open – it will start on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. If are affected by this lawsuit and wish to opt out so you can pursue your own lawsuit in the future you must do so by Monday, July 22, 2024.
